Description and Background
Description:
Torix is a swarthy, black-maned, black-bearded, and black-eyed male Pict. He appears to be around 20 years old. Young, yes, put not a boy. Boys become men soon in Pictland-- or don't live to become men at all. His face and body are covered with dark blue tattoos in geometric shapes. Like most Picts, he's rather small compared to the average Hyborians. He wears a breastplate, bracers, and greaves of thick boar hide hardened by boiling in oil. He carries a spear, and his braided deer hide belt carry a large knife and hand axe. A short bow and quiver are across his back. His taut, wiry body smells of soil, sweat, and slaughtered game.

Background:
Torix is young Pict male, and that's all that really needs to be said. Like other young Pict males, he's a hunter, fisherman, hut and boat builder, and savage warrior. Like the other boys from the village, he endured the coming of age initiation and was tattooed. The shamans chose the daytime Sun and one of the nighttime Moving Stars [planets] to depict on his chest. No explanation was given. He's to discover the meaning on his own along the way. He's fond of the lovely Diendrei from the neighboring village. He's been secretly "night-crawling" with her for around two months. He thinks she'd make a good wife, gathering seasonal food with the other women, using a hoe on her garden patch, gutting, scaling, skinning and cooking game, hauling firewood-- and birthing strong boys. But before committing to protecting a wife and babies there's the world to roam, and Gundermen, Aquilonians, and Cimmerians to slay. No man who hasn't done so can ever sit at the head of the council fire.

Pictish Gods
Jhebbal Sag. A god of all beasts, and men who act as beasts. Fang and claw are the law of this Beast-Lord. For millions of years he has loped through his wild lands in the form of one great beast or another; for such is his pleasure. When man came he added them to his stable. Jhebbal Sag is brother in spirit and blood to the animal kingdom.

Jhil the Raven, a trickster deity associated with mortality. His children are the ravens, crows and certain spirits. Jhil taught the Picts how to survive in the wilderness. He is also a messenger for the spirit world. Endowed with the gift of prophecy, he has empowered mortals to use dice to reveal his messages, giving man a method of augury.

Gullah the Hairy One. A Pictish gorilla god. The Picts consider the apes of the jungle to be his totem animals. Gullah, as a moon deity, also serves as a guardian of the spirit world. He mirrors the vices of humanity, for all of the animal kingdom his ape-like appearance most mimics that of Man’s. He is also credited the inventor of time and, as a moon god, has a fertility aspect.
