Background:
Holger grew up the only child of a woman who was seduced by a warrior. This status, although not uncommon for the time, made him resentful as a youth, partly as it did not give him a clear profession to enter into. He made his way assisting the local builder / engineer who was blessed with six daughters and not a son in sight, learning his trade as he went. Initially not particularly religious, he had a conversion when he was 16 when adventuring with a close friend, ________. The friend nearly died, surviving only due to a prayer from Holger to St. Poul of the Shield to dedicate his life to the Church of Law and Order. He left his engineering profession to enter the priesthood. Not possessing some of the characteristics of a cleric, he was steered into the fighting arts for the Holy Church soon after pursuing this path. Although getting a late start, he soon excelled and emerged a paladin of the Church, a servant of St. Poul of the Shield, as betrayed by the Claw-Scarred Shield he wears around his neck as a holy symbol. Ironically enough, he prefers to fight two-handed when he can and does not wear a shield, a quirk of his that made his teachers shake their heads. He applied for admission into the Red Hilt but was denied due to his lack of lineage. He now adventures with his friend _________, serving The White, and hoping to find clues to his heritage so as to finally meet and confront his father.
