Description and Background    Description: Her appearance is shocking. Tattoos, piercings, filed teeth. Her personality is no less so. Domineering, jealous and secretive, she trusts nobody outsider her clan...except Wulfhart. She seems to have a special sway over him...and he over her. Background: From the same backwater village as Wulfhart hails Candidiasis. The Vargina clan always lived at the margins of society. They proclaimed to have received magical powers from The Old Ones at the dawn of humankind. The Vargina clan guards these secrets jealously, and practice customs the others find strange. As such, the are tolerated but not welcomed by the rest of their society. Candidiasis has adopted the role of outsider with relish. Her head and face are festooned with colorful tattoos and piercings, and she has filed her teeth to a point. As the rest of her family, she believes that her magical powers are derived from the earth and air surrounding her. Every encounter with clean air, dirty air, filth, etc. is welcomed. Bathing happens rarely, if ever, for to cleanse one's skin is to wash away the ethereal power gained over time. As a girl in school (such that it was), Wulfhart was the only classmate who did not treat her with scorn. Whether because of pity or infatuation, he often intervened to shield her from physical and mental abuse from her classmates. Perhaps this led her to develop a special fondness for the lumberjack's son.

The arrow is equal to a +1 weapon for hit determination purposes. The effect of a hit might inflict damage on the target even if it would not normally be harmed by an arrow or magic weapon of only +1 value. This is due to the acid. The arrow itself does 2-5 points of damage. The acid which gushes forth when it hits is equal to an acid missile of 8-ounce volume (1' diam. area of effect, 2-8 hit points damage, plus item saving throw; splash does not apply). The acid's strength increases by one round's worth of damage for every three levels of experience of the spell caster above the 3rd, so that damage will occur over two rounds if the spell is cast by a 4-6th level m-u, unless the target can have the acid neutralized. The material components for this spell are a dart and powdered rhubarb leaf and adder stomach.
