Background:
Coming from generations of insurance salesmen from the keystone state of Pennsylvania, Ned decided to take a different path. Instead of being their for people after something horrible happened he made it his quest to help people before and during their crises. When he was old enough he relocated to San Francisco, joined Starfleet, and studied to become a doctor.
His first tour as an assistant to the chief medical officer on USS Pegasus he was reintroduced to his Starfleet academy nickname 'Needles'. Apparently one of his former classmates though it would be funny to add his nickname, that he acquired while taking a class on 20th century medical practices, to his permanent service record. Unable to shake the nickname he embraced it and made it his own. When asked how he got that nickname Ned would always reply 'Not without some Romulan ale in my belly first.' |
