Description and Background
Description:
Vek's face had been systematically destroyed, just like his life. These weren't the scars of battle, but rather those of torture... or worse.
Tall, broad, thickly muscled, and hard of eye and voice, Vek was grim, bleak and withdrawn. His hair was cropped short like a monk and his iron armor, evoking the style of ancient Sparta and Norway, betrayed a former glory that was long since gone.
His failure had taken a toll on his mind, body and spirit (causing a permanent loss to Charisma, reflected in the stats above). He wouldn't soon be attracting the opposite sex, nor leading a company of warriors. Barring divine intervention, Vek would never be a paladin. And Vek didn't believe in divine intervention anymore.
Background:
Vek was cruelly beaten and cast out from the monastic order that had raised him since childhood to become their holy champion, because he had fallen in love.
On the morning of the day he was to be made a Paladin, his brothers ambushed and beat him until he was no longer fit for any woman. They branded him “unworthy†and “accursed,†and banished him to walk among the base, low world of heathens and filth. His true love died shortly thereafter of the plague, a disease Vek could have cured had he been a Paladin.
Broken, self-loathing, and grim, Vek now wanders aimlessly through the world of men, selling his sword for his sins. Only in his most optimistic, and masochistic, moments does he allow himself to hope that one day, through some valorous act, he may prove himself worthy, regain his honor and be redeemed and allowed to return to his brethren.
