Background:
Agax Gryyg has always been haunted by dreams that he is really a man from another universe playing an elaborate game that is Agax’s life. This other man is a 'Gamer of Urth' and when he dreams, he becomes Agax. ...And vice versa. As a youth, Agax told his parents about the dreams and they almost sent him to an asylum. They settled on the Church of Raystek instead. There, Agax interpreted his visions of cosmic gamers as visions of Raystek, the god of luck and chance whose symbol is the wheel of fortune. After years in the priesthood, Agax learned his mistake. The Gamers of Urth were not Raystek. Perhaps they were aspects or avatars of him from another universe but to better understand them (and therefore Raystek), he knew he needed to take another path. Agax left the priesthood on good terms and became an apprentice to a sorcerer. There, his hair turned prematurely white from shock when he was first exposed to the vast cosmic scale of the multiverse, and its staggering implications. There, he learned something more of the myriad planes of existence, and of the pandimensional Gamers of Urth. There, he learned to accept his life even if he could never hope to completely understand it. In truth, Agax is now uncertain whether he is the dreamer or the dream; whether his world is real or make-believe; whether he has free will or if his actions are governed by the whims of another. Thus has he lived, for as long as he can remember, and yet he’s not been driven to nihilism, despair or even belief in predestination, but rather to embrace life all the more. “I leave it to the philosophers to brood over these riddles. I know this much. If life is an illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I learn, I travel, I feel, I love, and I am content.” Personality: Old beyond his years, Agax’s personality is in complete disarray. By turns he is solemn and merry, serious and joyful, distracted and engaged, aloof and kind, otherworldly and humane, confused and
