Description and Background
Description:
Bürd is the son of the great Dwarven Ironlord Dürgo Goblinhew of Anvil Peak Holdfast. Despite being raised on a steady diet of axes and armour, Bürd's temperament was more thoughtful and curious than most Dwarflings. His grandmother Ilswitha encouraged this, and gave Bürd his first runestone. He spent increasingly more time at her side as he grew, memorising the ancient stories of his people and the wider world, and learning the fundamentals of rune carving. None were surprised when, the day after his Stonemade, the dwarven coming of age of ceremony, he decided to go out and see the wide world for himself. His father blessed him with the name 'Makelucky', his uncle Fuldäg gave him a well wrought greataxe, his grandmother pressed a silver key in his hand with the words, 'you'll know when you'll need this m'boy,' and off he went. The elder dwarves retired to share ale and stories of their own 'wild tenyear', a common dalliance among young dwarves, before returning home as all respectable dwarves do. Knowing many tales, but having few friends below the mountains, Bürd sought out Barton, a human who had fought beside Ironlord Dürgo in the Goblin Wars. Barton was a well respected Dwarf-friend, and had spent a year after the war in Anvil Peak, and had often sparred with young Bürd and told him of his home. Upon finding Herebury, Bürd was saddened to hear of Barton's death, but grew fond of his son Jonas and the boy's friends. He decided to make Herebury his home for a while, and see what fortune would bring...
