Description and Background
Description:
Gilly stands about 4-foot tall, having dirty blond hair and a slightly bulbous nose. Armored in banded mail, she carries an array of weapons, most prominently a military pick. She wears a clothes in grays and blacks, and her woolen kilt is threaded with crimson.
Gilly is quiet, but jovial, and likes a good joke > the bawdier the better; growing up in a family of mostly men has colored her taste for tales and songs. She can hold her own when it comes to drinking, but usually doesn't allow herself to go too far. Her dog, Red, is never far from her side.
Her word is her bond, and once she's claimed a friend, she's loyal to the death. While she despises Goblins and Orcs like all dwarves, she has a deep, cold hatred for dragons.
Background:
Born in the Third Age in Ered Mithrin, north of the great Mirkwood forest, Gilda doesn't remember the first time she saw the outside world. But the story has been told her so often, she claims it as a memory of her own. It is told by her family, that less than one week after her birth, her father, Thrane, carried her to the top of a windswept precipice in the middle of a winter snow storm and showed her the land beyond the Grey Mountains. He told her of Mirkwood and Erebor, the far distant lands of the Shire and the realms of Men. And he told her about the evil wyrms that came looking for the ore her people mined, and how one day she would stand against them in the name of her kin.
In the mines, Gilly learned the rewards of hard work, and when she wasn't working, she was traipsing about on the rocks and mountain paths around her home. When her father began training her younger brother, Glasik, in the ways of the warrior, she wanted to learn too. Even though, dwarven warriors are almost always male, Gilly insisted she be trained...and because of the love Thrane bore her, he relented.
This training proved crucial as it saved her life and the life of her brother when Orcs invaded their mining home. She stood toe-to-toe with the beasts alongside her father, uncles, and brother, and although she was wounded, she helped her family drive the Orcs away. This battle filled Gilly with pride and she knew what she was called to do.
Gilly and Glasik became an Orc-killing duo, wreaking destruction on the evil creatures which tried to invade their mining home. Eventually, however, the Orcs were too numerous, and her kin too few, and so they retreated deeper into the Grey Mountains. |
